From top to bottom, left to right:
Love Poems: Pablo Neruda
The Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda is pretty much the master of love poems, and if you haven’t read him yet, you need to!
Love, Poetry: Paul Eluard
Paul Eluard is easily the most romantic of the French Surrealists. Written to his first wife Gala (who later left him for Dali), this collection is a stunning exploration of love. It begins with easy, light surrealist love poetry, and then moves darker (so maybe save the end of the collection for after Valentines Day)!
The Sonnets and A Lover’s Complaint: Shakespeare
You probably got your fair share of Shakespeare back in high school, but trust me, the sonnets are worth revisiting. Not to mention, this Penguin Classic edition is absolutely gorgeous.
On Love: Alain de Botton
Okay, this book isn’t a collection of poetry, but it is a great point to get started on thinking about the different stages of love. Full of philosophical musings, this novel is a thoughtful tracing of a love affair.
Collected Poems: Frank O’Hara
O’Hara is probably my favorite poet around. Writing during the 50s, this New York School poet wrote a huge amount of poetry–much of which was romantic. Check out the poems from Lunch Poems and Love Poems (tentative title). “Having a Coke with You” is particularly gorgeous.
Love Poems: John Donne
Read all of the love poems of this metaphysical poet. “A Valediction Forbidding Mourning” is a wonderful place to start.

All Valentines Day candy is pretty cute, but there’s something about these heart-shaped Junior Mints that makes me smile a little more than usual!
I love making heart-shaped treats for my friends and family as a sweet, homemade touch for Valentines Day. This heart whoopie pie pan from Sur La Table is a cute and tasty twist on my regular heart cookies!
Cardstore.com recently joined forces with Janet Gallin and Tresa Eyres, the communication experts and radio hosts behind San Francisco’s Love Letter Squad, for the prefect prelude to Valentine’s Day: a Love Letter Workshop. Looking for a last minute gift to warm the heart of your Valentine? Love letters are inexpensive and incredibly meaningful, that is — if done correctly. The Love Letter Squad explains that good love letters say ‘hello,’ while great love letters change lives. Here are some tips on how to write a great love letter:
A love letter is special for the recipient, for one, because they get to see themselves through the eyes of someone who loves them. It may take a little more effort than buying chocolate or flowers, but it’ll last forever, and probably mean a whole lot more. Good luck, and Happy Valentine’s Day!
