Holiday Travel Inspiration

Traveling during the holidays can be hectic, but it doesn’t always have to be. Remember to book flights in advance and try to take afternoon flights to avoid long lines and delays.  To ensure a smooth flight, also check out some of my travel necessities I always bring along when I go home for the holidays.

  • Make sure to write down everything so you don’t forget anything important before you go.  Here’s a great personal organizer from Kate Spade for all of your last minute thoughts.
  • Since it’s a hassle to check bags, I always try to get small gifts like these great earrings at Bloomingdales to save space.
  • Another light and cute gift can be a set of personalized stationary, like these cute airplane cards from Cardstore.com.
  • Look for a good travel bag that isn’t too big for carry-on and can fit under the seat by your feet (in case they run out of room in the cabin).  Here are just some of the many travel bags in different colors and prints at Longchamp.
  • Pack blouses that can work for both dressy and casual occasions, like this festive top from Anthropologie.
  • Finally, for ear pressure, don’t forget a pack of gum, a bottle of water, and straws to drink out of to equalize the pressure.

I’ve been all about subtle natural details lately, and the tree branch motif that I’ve been seeing everywhere is no exception.  Perfect as a silhouette or a 3D item, the delicate lines of a tree branch add a complex, interesting element to any room.

Inspiration Board: Pinwheels

by Allison on August 13, 2010

As summer is starting to draw to a close, I’m desperately clinging to anything carefree and whimsical–pretty much the definition of pinwheels. I love the idea of pinwheels thrown in with a bright bouquet or a jar of pens and pencils.  Pinwheels are a great way to bring the fun feeling of summer into your autumn!

This week’s letter inspiration is a little bit out of the ordinary in that it deals more with notes. It comes from a blog I stumbled upon last week called thx thx thx: a thank you note a day. Based on the premise that writing a little thank you note to yourself about the things you’re thankful for, be it a smile, a birthday, wood floors, or anything, it provides you with a little pick me up. The author of the blog, Leah Dietrich, does this everyday, and her notes are funny, sweet, kind, and downright hysterical sometimes! I love this idea, but would make mine a little more special by writing it on stationery just for me. There’s something about pretty, personalized stationery that would make this concept even better. So next time you’re upset about anything, or needing something new to think about, why not pull out a piece of stationery and jot down a letter to yourself, saying what you’re thankful for. And trust me, it can be anything!

Feeling Blue

by Vanessa on July 8, 2010

With this gorgeous summer weather, one can’t help but think of the beach and sailing through some warm summer wind. When I came across this Marine Blue stationery from Delphine, I was immediately transported to scenes of stunning blue water, crisp white clothes, and perfectly paired tan accents. All these images floating in my mind were just begging to be made into an Inspiration Board post, so of course I obliged! If you’re dreaming of an ocean escape, here are some ideas to make that dream a reality.
