Kid’s stationery

I always enjoyed school, so I can’t help getting a bit nostalgic watching the kids donning their new back-to-school clothes with fresh notebooks and backpacks in tow. I love both this personalized thank you card stationery and the lined paper pouches because they invoke similar nostalgia! Not to mention, back-to-school ushers in my favorite time of year–fall! Do lined paper and other scholastic goods make you think of your school days as well?

Something about butterflies has always fascinated me. Maybe it’s because my name means “butterfly”, but I have always found them to be whimsical and stunningly colorful creatures. When I came across this Butterfly Green and Sky Blue Stationery for Kids, as designed by Cardstore.com artist delphine, I realized what a pretty note it would be for any little girl to write in. I know as I child I would have been more than proud to send this stationery out! Matched with this black and white photo of a vibrant blue butterfly done by Flickr photographer Eddy.H, it makes for a picture-perfect pair.

A Giraffe Craze

A Valentine’s Day card addressed to a Margaret Davey arrived at Duke University earlier this month, but get this…it was postmarked February 12, 1934! It was later discovered that Davey graduated from Duke’s School of Nursing in 1935. The card was signed by Davey’s six year old niece (who was actually Davey’s sister, the niece’s mother).  Unfortunately, Davey passed away earlier this year and was never able to receive the card, but Duke’s Director of Postal Operations was able to get in touch with the niece.

Lost Valentine’s postmarked 1934

I was really fascinated by this story and also found it interesting that the card featured a giraffe–the newest trend for kid’s stationery. As of recent, these loveable long-necked creatures have been taking over kids’ stationery and they’re winning us over at Cardstore, too! Check out here to see how these animals have stampeded all over the front of our new stationery. (And to find out more about the lost Valentine, click here.)
