Our Favorite Blog Posts: June 28 – July 5

Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July!  Here’s some of our favorite blog posts this past week:

1.  Artfully Crafted Atlanta Wedding – The shots from this wedding (above) are completely gorgeous and original wedding photos. I love the intimacy created by the distance and the balcony. 2. EGO-EGO-EGO – I love this letter, featured on Letters of Note, from Madonna to her producer and collaborator Pat Leotard. She comes off completely sincere, charming, and humble–it’s a really interesting side of Madonna and a great lesson in letter-writing to boot!

3.  Frank Lloyd Wright Letterhead – I would love receiving a letter written on this gorgeous letterhead from architect Frank Lloyd Wright featured on Letterheady! The few pops of color really let the intricate design shine.


Our Favorite Blog Posts: May 31 – June 6

1. San Diego Wedding: So many weddings lately go for whimsical overclassically romantic This wedding, with its sumptuous color palette and stunning bride who would fit right in to any film noir, opts for sultry romance.  Beautiful details, location, and florals! 2. Vintage Engagement Photos:  If you’re looking for some inspiration for a vintage engagement shoot done well, look no further than this stunning set over at Snippet & Ink. The photos are cute enough on their own, but are enhanced by knowing that the couple met at a swing club! Photography by Brian and Brandon Wright.

houseofbrinson_scones_13. Breakfast in the Park – Although I adore breakfast, I’ve never gotten the hang of making it a special meal. This post from House of Brinson with its simple but sweet idea of taking a breakfast outside during the warmer months has me reconsidering how I can make breakfast a perfect time to spend outdoors.

summerskinpost3. Three Things: Summer Skin – There’s something magical about the beginning of summer that seems to entice everyone. This post from Creature Comforts had a perfect ode to summer for me that I’ll remember for quite some time.

Our Favorite Blog Posts: April 5 – 11


1. Favorite Wedding of the Week: Safari Themed Forest Wedding – I try to highlight an array of weddings that range in budget, style, and location.  This wedding features lots of cost-saving DIY tips and an unusual jungle theme! 2. How to Steal Like an Artist (and 9 other things no one told me) – This post, from Austin Kleon, is a must-read for any creative individual. Full of great, straight-forward advice. -Allison


3. Up-Inspired Floating House – The second I saw photos from this National Geographic shoot, I felt like I was being transported to a fairy tale. I love that not only did they test the idea of the house floating off with balloons in the movie Up, but the colors are so perfectly matched to the colors from the film. This must have been incredible to see. -Vanessa 


4. How to Make Playdough – As a child, playdough was one of my favorite creative tools. There was something about the feel of the playdough in my hands, along with the variety of colors, that always got my creative juices flowing. This post from black eiffel has an easy tutorial for making your own playdough in colors you want; it sounds like a blast! -Vanessa

4. Don Draper Disapproves – With the news that Mad Men has been postponed, all Mad Men lovers are in mourning. This post from Miss Moss cracked me up with all the photos of Don Draper looking very upset about this news; these photos will have to tide me over until the next season finally starts. -Vanessa


5. DIY Caramel Popcorn – I’m a huge popcorn lover; and that’s the understatement of the century. The thought of making my own caramel popcorn for a wedding, based on this post from Ruffled, would be such a fun party favor for any party. -Vanessa

1. Vintage Sonoma Real Wedding – This gorgeous wedding, featured at One Lovely Day, features an absolutely sumptuous color palette. I love the use of gold and pastels. Photography by Kate Harrison Photography.

2. Floral Inspiration – While its still decidely feeling like winter here in California–so much rain!–this flower inspiration post from 100 layer cake is sure to get you in the mood for spring (as if you weren’t already)! Designed by Hatch Creative and photography by Jen Huang.

3. 1960s Vintage Alabama Wedding -I love every detail of this vintage 60’s inspired wedding. The bride especially–her makeup, dress, hair–is perfect.  Gorgeous theme, perfectly executed! Post from Ruffled Blog, Photography 1313 Photography


4. {wedding} nick & surya, basalt, colorado – While this post is from a long time ago, I found it this past week and had to share. I have never seen an effortless, cool looking wedding done so perfectly. This looks like the celebration of the century.


5. Dinner in the Sky – Dinner parties are taken to a whole new level in this gorgeous take on the traditional dinner seen on Black Eiffel.

Our Favorite Blog Posts: March 8 – 14

1. The Many Meanings of Pie – With pie being the up and coming dessert in the culinary world, despite its timeless history, and with today being pi day (3.14), I thought this post from Eating is Art was especially interesting. Featuring a story from an incredibly gifted pie maker, just reading this post has me smelling some warm apple pie coming straight out of the oven.





2. Tech Accessories for Throwing a Great Party – I know almost nothing technologically-related other than some absolute necessities, so when I saw this post from design*sponge I was so relieved to finally have a guide about handy gadgets for hosting parties.


3. Lulu et les madeleines – From La Tartine Gourmande, I was smitten by this post when I saw the gorgeous photos. After reading the text, I loved the childlike feel of the story and the effortless realism it uses.


4. Classic Red Ball Birthday – From the eye-popping red details to the birthday girl’s tulle skirt, this party made my week. I love the idea of taking such a simple toy and making it shine as a party theme; so simple but so cute.

Our Favorite Blog Posts: March 1 – 7


1. Missouri Wedding – This simple, classic wedding–featured on Style Me Pretty made rich by the gorgeous vintage-style Hawes photography. Some truly inspiring images of a classic couple in a classic setting.


2. Leprechan Potions – This DIY craft from Design*Sponge is at once magical and holiday-centric–two qualities to which I am definitely drawn. Why not use this craft as a starting point to throwing a St. Patrick’s Day party that verges beyond the typical gold coin and corned beef shindig? Instead, create an elfin, woodland garden party–a whimsical and magical celebration suiting St. Patrick’s Day’s happy leprechan figure!



3. Real Wedding: Kate & Felix – If you look at anything I post today, make sure to glance over this eccentric and inspiring wedding featured on Snippet & Ink. Totally inspiring in its originality, the setting, couple, and photography is stunning. Photography by Nick Tucker.


4. Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread – There’s something about a Monday morning that seems to be unbearable for everyone. I was feeling this way today when I saw this post from Joy the Baker that immediately pulled me out of that Monday morning blues with some delicious photos. This recipe looks fantastic, and Joy’s fantastic sarcasm has me celebrating this Monday morning.

Our Favorite Blog Posts: February 22-28

1. Favorite Wedding of the Week: Pennsylvania Wedding by 6 Degrees of Celebration – This wedding has all the simple touches that I like to see, but what really makes it stand out is its gorgeous color scheme.   This is a great example of an autumnal color palette that is emphasized just the right amount.  Also, how perfect is the photo above?  Tastefully and beautifully done. 2. Earthy Spring Bouquet – I get so tired of seeing only pastels for spring, when that isn’t really what’s surrounding us outside.  This earthy bouquet, created and beautifully photographed at Design*Sponge, is a refreshing dose of mossy greens and the richer tones of spring.

Our Favorite Blog Posts: February 15 – 21

1. Homemade Streamers:  These colorful homemade streamers are perfect for a spring party.  Oh happy day is responsible for these gorgeous crepe paper creations. Learn how to make them yourself there! -Allison

2. Favorite Wedding of the Week: Virginia Vineyard Wedding – This dreamlike wedding, featured at Ruffled, really succeeded in creating an ethereal vibe. I love the faded quality of the photographs, and the use of whites and pastels against bright bursts of color. -Allison

3. This gorgeous shoot of the musical duo snowbirds from Live It Out Photo is probably my favorite thing I’ve seen this week. The backdrop for the shoot–with all sorts of intricate grey structures–is stunning, and the couple photographs so beautifully together. Totally inspiring! -Allison


4. While this Breakfast Brunch may have been for a one year old’s birthday party, I was instantly smitten with the idea of stacks of pancakes with candles, a cereal bar, and a funny but sweet take on bacon and eggs to celebrate anyone’s big day. Seen on The Sweetest Occasion, this little party made my day. -Vanessa


5. In this age of online communication, the art of handwriting has quickly disappeared, and I’ll be the first to admit my handwriting is nothing to be envious of. However, this post from David Lebovitz entitled “French Handwriting” has left me with some hope that in some parts of the world, the art of handwriting and letter writing is still alive and well. The continuation of this talent is somehow comforting and has me thinking about how I can improve that communication skill. -Vanessa

Best Blog Posts: January 3-10



1. Five Spring Fashion Trends – This post has me thinking about the classic style that is sure to crop up again soon. There’s nothing I love more than a timeless look, and looking forward to these nautical stripes and subdued colors have me so excited.


2. Winter Hair Care – During the winter months, my hair and most of my friend’s hair goes absolutely crazy. It gets dry and I have no idea what to do with it! This post from design*sponge has great tips about how to keep that mane under control during these cold-weather months; can’t wait to try them out!


3. Collecting: Teacups – I was swooning when I saw the images of the teacups the author of the blog House of Brinson has been collecting; they’re absolutely gorgeous! I also love her post about taking care of these beautiful items. It’s so important to remember to preserve such important heirlooms.
