Letter Inspiration: Martin Luther King, Jr.

While going through the fantastic site Letters of Note last week, I found a letter from Martin Luther King, Jr. to Sammy Davis, Jr. thanking Sammy for his active support in the Civil Rights Movement. It is full of beautiful language and speaks to me in such an incredible way. It really reminded me of how nice it is to receive a thank you note from someone really thanking you from the bottom of their heart. Finally, how incredible is this sentence? “Art can move and alter people in subtle ways because, like love, it speaks through and to the heart.” What a beautiful way to show how grateful you really are.

Japanese Cherry Blossoms

I have always thought Japanese Cherry Blossoms are the most beautiful blossoms out there. There is something about the subtle mix of pale pink and white, along with the brighter burst of color in the center, that gives this plant such a romantic feel. When I saw this Asian Blossom Box stationery, I was inspired to put images together that contained that faded, whimsical romance of the Cherry Blossoms. Hope you enjoy!

Memories of a Soft Monday

I had one of those three-day weekends where I just curled up with my favorite short story collection (The Collected Stories of Lydia Davis–read it, she’s lovely), nestled into my down comforter, put on some Edith Piaf, and relaxed. I think memories of my soft Monday have permeated my subconscious; I keep drifting toward the same soft and elegant color palette, white and pale pink, and black, and longing for that easy morning which stretched into afternoon.

Frame Mania

I love the look of masses of mismatched frames all crammed together on one wall.  It works best, I think, when the interiors of the frames vaguely match one another, like the collection of framed embroidery below.  After visiting the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin–which has the most beautiful maroon room stuffed from top to bottom with a huge array of portraits–I was inspired to create a similar wall, jam-packed with amateur portraits. I’m building my collection now, hunting in antique stores, flea markets and street fairs, and will be sure to eventually post the final result!

Saying Thanks is easy as 1, 2, 3…

This week we celebrated National Teacher’s Day, a small tribute to the tremendous men and women who dedicate themselves to educating our youth. This, among a million other reasons, is why I believe teachers deserve the highest accolades for their work. I thought it’d be a great idea to show a special teacher appreciation by sending a thoughtful note. Whether it’s one of your child’s teachers, an old college professor, or a friend who is a teacher— has the perfect card for that special educator. One of my favorites is the Number Patchwork stationery. Any teacher would fall in love with the quilt patchwork numbers and the wooden background designed by Rubbergob.

Celebrities love stationery!

Actresses Amy Ryan and Poppy Montgomery, singer Drew Lacey, and celebrity wife Natalie Hanson recently sent out thank you notes from our kids’ stationery collection. They all received gift sets provided by Jewels and Pinstripes, which featured our stationery. Ryan used one of our most popular sets, the Pink and Gray Elephant stationery, to thank Jewels and Pinstripes for their gift to her new baby girl. Others used our Light Blue Sand Dollar Thank You Card by Tori Higa, the Superhero Boy Thanks by Persnickety Pear, and the Flying Biplane Thanks by Amy Adele. We’re always so delighted to hear when our celebrity fans send out greeting cards!
