The stockings are hanging askew, the toys are on their second round of batteries, and you’ll be finding pine needles in your carpet for weeks to come. The lights… well, ok, the lights are still up. And they probably will be until Easter. But, yep! The holidays are officially over. And while the tinsel-topped season of cheer always goes by too fast, everyone has something to take away from, arguably, the most wonderful time of the year.
This season, Cardstore.com created a sugarplum of a program to help spread holiday happiness across the United States. In an awesome mystery-pen-pal-type fashion, the program connected people who had never met, and who possibly lived hundreds of miles away from each other, through cards.
The program was delightfully dubbed Send a Little You to Someone New. And, while many greeting card makers were offering discounts over the holiday season, this program was different – it was 100% free.
Just by signing up on Facebook, participants got to pick out a holiday card, write a message, a haiku (or whatever they wanted!) to their lucky recipient, including a Twitter handle or a way to get back in touch. Then, we stuck a stamp on their little envelope of glee and sent it on its way to someone new! In return, senders were given a 60% discount on their next purchase at Cardstore.com and received a personalized greeting card from a new friend!
There was also another incentive for bloggers who wrote about our program. If a blogger posted about the contest, he/she was automatically entered to win a year’s worth of free Cardstore.com cards!
So, who won?! Drumroll, please… congratulations goes to Heather, who writes a fantastic blog called Freebies4Mom.com. Heather’s blog post regarding “Send a Little You to Someone New” was spread to thousands of her readers and resulted in hundreds of participants joining in on the fun. Freebies4Mom.com helps its readers find online deals, discounts and freebies. (Check it out here!)
And sure, some people say ‘tis better to give. But let’s be honest, people! We all love to be on the receiving end once in a while! Heather told us the best thing about holiday cards is finding one in her mailbox. She loves the surprise of getting a card and the stories and/or photos shared along with it. Heather saw the program as a great chance to make cool connections at no cost to her readers.
“I really like to spoil my readers,” Heather said. “I try to find entertaining freebies like books, apps, music, and movies to share.” The hassle-free process of online greeting cards is a major perk for her busy schedule. “I’m more likely to send a card on-time if I can design, personalize, and send it “hands-off,” so I’m a big fan of personalizing physical cards online,” says the savvy sender.
So, a huge smooch and an even bigger thank you to everyone who participated in Send a Little You to Someone New! We loved helping you spread your copious amounts of holiday spirit and connecting you to new friends.
