December 2009

Regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Festivus, the holidays are a time of giving and receiving.  And while days are filled to the brim with last minute shopping, holiday parties and shuttling the family from one relative’s house to the other, it’s still no time to forget your manners.  Nothing can quite replace thank you cards for the lovely party your colleague hosted, or the exquisite bracelet with which your best friend surprised you.  So to keep the daunting task of writing thank yous to a minimum, here’s a few tips to help you stay polite during the busy holiday season:

  1. Stock Up! Make sure you have plenty of stamps and thank you cards during the holiday season so you have no excuse not to send one.snowman thanks 300x210; Thank the Santas in Your Life with Style
  2. Plan Ahead! Before attending a family gathering that you know will involve presents or a holiday party, address and stamp the thank you cards before you go so you can quickly jot a thank you card as soon as you get home.thanks brown 300x210; Thank the Santas in Your Life with Style
  3. Make it Memorable! Use Holiday Photo Thank You Cards to add a special photo to the front of the card, either of you and the gift giver or of you using/wearing the gift.blue thank you photo2 201x300; Thank the Santas in Your Life with Style

Just remember, as G.B. Stern said, “Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone.”

Keeping Dinner Fun!

by Tasha on December 16, 2009

Many people say that having family dinner—like that intimate, technology-free dinner—is a lost tradition. So I thought it would be nice to find ways for you to bring your family back to the table. And what better way to make the table more attractive than dinner table games! Not to mention, these are great gift ideas and useful tips on how to keep kids at any holiday party or dinner entertained:

Table Topics Family Edition
Table Topics is a fun game designed to help you learn about your kids and teach them the art of conversation.  Topics are creative and cover areas like ‘if you could meet one famous athlete, who would he/she be?’ and ‘is it more fun to be a parent or a child?’.

Mr. and Mrs. Freeze
This is a fun game that keeps everyone on their guard to make sure they’re not the last one standing—or in this case freezing. It’s simple: you pick a person to be Mr. or Mrs. Freeze and during the night, they decide when they want to freeze (meaning stop all movement, including their mouth). Everyone must be on the look-out for when Mr. or Mrs. Freeze freezes so that they too can freeze. The last person to catch on is out.

Construction Utensils
Although this is not a dinner table game, I thought it was a cool way to get your little ones to sit at the table without complaining about eating their veggies.  Construction cutlery is designed to make the most finicky of eaters reconsider their peas and carrots.

Cardstore.com in Boho Magazine

by Tiffany on December 15, 2009

We’re thrilled that a few of Cardstore.com’s Apiary Design holiday cards were featured in the winter issue of Boho Magazine.  The new magazine has quickly become one of our favorites, as they focus on two of our favorite things, style and sustainability!  Not to mention, they have impeccable taste in greeting cards (but we might be a bit biased on that last point).
