You’ve taken the perfect picture. Well done! It may be social media ready, but the perfect caption can make your photo even better. Here are 5 easy tips for writing funny photo captions that can make people laugh, chuckle, smile or whatever – along with some illustrative (and pretty entertaining) examples, so you can see what I’m talking about.
1. Anthropomorphize stuff.
Behold your $5 word of the day. It means to give human attributes to non-human things. Talk about having fun with photos…
2. Ask a question and answer it.
Ever find yourself looking at a picture and asking yourself, “What in the world?!” Feel free to answer that question in the most fun way you can think of.
3. Put words in people’s (or animals’, or things’) mouths.
Did someone say something hilarious JUST as the photo was being taken? Capture it. Even if they didn’t (or couldn’t), it’s always fun to just make stuff up.
4. Tell a story in one sentence.
Your picture’s going to do most of the heavy lifting for you, so you can create a lot of impact with just a few words. Are there details that you could include, or even just allude to, that tell a story in a single sentence? Note: this is another one of those times where it’s a lot of fun to just make something up.
5. Do a parody.
Does your photo remind you of a painting or some other famous thing? Write a title that parodies the famous thing’s title.
Enjoy, and happy caption-writing! Come up with some good ones of your own? Let’s see ‘em!
