Halloween cards – An inside look at the making of this year’s card line {show & tell}

I’ve always LOVED Halloween (aside from the super-scary TV shows). The pumpkin carving, the Halloween parties and the cute décor are all right up my alley. So, when I was asked to head up the Halloween card line this year, I jumped at the opportunity!

Now that it’s all wrapped up, I wanted to take a minute to share some of my favorites.

Halloween is an awesome time to let people have some fun with personalization, so I tried to incorporate that in a few places. Kids especially love getting cards where they can “become” a character, and we’ve gotten great feedback on our St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun and birthday princess cards, so I decided to infuse this idea into our Halloween line as well with our new vampire and cat mask cards. And if you don’t have a photo to use, we thought of you too! We got creative with our cards that feature a name as well.

One of my favorite cards is the orange “Happy Halloween” card (pictured above), which was inspired by the look of rising smoke right after a candle is blown out. It was created using a brush-script technique by one of our super talented illustrators, Dan Liuzzi.

I also had a chance to work on some of my own lettering on the card shown below, which made me really happy. I was even able to incorporate some inspiration from (believe it or not) nail polish colors!

Now, if only Halloween were here… I’m anxious for my annual Halloween party, and ready to hand out candy to all the trick-or-treaters that come by!
