My oldest daughter started kindergarten last week, which basically blows my mind.
Like any 21st century parent, I wanted to document her first day of school and what she’s like as a five year old, in a way that would be easy for me to store and also keep up on year-to-year.
I snapped a few pictures of her on the big day, picked my favorite, and then added them to the “Say Cheese” card on the Creatacard app.
I added the basic info – her grade, teacher’s name, and the school year – and then, for the inside, I put together a little survey and had her answer the questions.
She loved this so much, she asked me for MORE questions at the end but I couldn’t think of any on the fly.
Here are the questions I used:
- Favorite color
- Favorite subject
- Favorite movie
- The best thing this summer
- I am super good at
- Favorite book
- Favorite thing to do on the weekend
- When I grow up, I want to be
It was so fun to hear her answer them, and I can’t wait to see her different answers to those same questions in future years.
I had her sign her name at the bottom of the card (how cute is that!) and then ordered a paper copy of the card.
I addressed the card to her, because she loves getting mail, and when it arrived in the mail, she loved seeing her own face on the card and reading her answers again.
Then, I tucked it carefully away in my files and next year, when we order the first-grade version of our back to school keepsake, we can take the two out and compare them.
Someday, probably sooner than I think, I’ll have 13 cards collected, showing her growing up from a kindergartener to a high school senior.
